October Updates and Highlights

We’re pleased to share that our students have made great strides forward in the past few months. Starting in August, we introduced several tools to help students progress towards their goals. These have helped to impart the knowledge to students in a way they can understand. We’ve noticed positive behavior changes, and minimized distracted attentions. Gups in our kids class were given a streamlined focus sheet. This is to encourage practicing off the mats at home. A QR code attached has helpful videos for the students to practice their forms and one steps. We want to reinforce that martial arts isn’t only done while on the mats. It’s a way to conduct yourself with great character in your every day life.

Referral program:

Anyone that joins and submits your name in our initial questioner, you’ll receive a $50 as a thank you. We appreciate everyone sharing their experience with friends and family members, thank you!

Gup Test Fees Changes:

We are discontinuing charges for gup testing. The fee was to cover our photographer, boards, belts, and submission to world headquarters. Instead, we’ll have our tuition cover those cost. Our interest is to create a long term relationship, we believe this will help to foster that goal.

This does not effect testing for black belt. Prices are set by WTSDA Region. This is akin to an accreditation or certification of expertise peer reviewed by WTSDA members.

Dragon Toy Incentive:

Earn is a word we use often. We’ve re-introduced our toy bucket. Dragons that show best behaviors and actions have an opportunity to earn a token. After earning 3 tokens, they can choose a toy from our school bucket. We’ve seen dragon students more engaged in the learning process. This has helped to make classes more efficient, educational, and fun!

Gup Test Papers:

We are re-introducing students to write papers for testing. This is for gup, not dragon students. Testing for black belt has several requirements, one of which is a 1,000 word essay. Papers will require the students name, date, current rank, and a cover page. They can be typed or hand written, drawn or printed pictures optional. Parents are welcome to assist. No use of AI tools.

Topics and words counts will vary with rank. The goal is to exercise this muscle in preparation for their black belt test in the future.

Written Test:

Gup students will have a written test of about 20 questions. This will help to prepare students for their black blet. Testing for black belt requires a 100 question test, which has 10% affect on a students testing grade. The goal is to learn and understand the question. You can use your gup manual to research the answers. With this being the 1st time, the expectation is to go through the process. After, we will discuss the correct answers to help students build a better understanding for correct answers.

Scholarship Update:

Your support in donations and attending our events has allowed us to have funding for our Tech - Scholarship. In 2024 and 2025 we’ve given out $2,000 to Scarborough High School and Massabesic High School students. Our goal each year is $1,000. If you have any suggestions or would like to volunteer to help, please contact Master Kafka.

Reviews:

Google is where we receive most of our new students. We’d ask that you go to our google page and help grow our presence. Reviews helps us to gain students, purchase equipment, and upgrade our facility. Thank you everyone!
